FAQs
Here you’ll find answers to common questions about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and our trainings at Maharlika NLP. We hope this helps you find your next step.
About NLP & Our Approach
What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
NLP is a practical model of how we think, communicate, and behave. It studies the connection between our neurology (Neuro), the language we use (Linguistic), and our learned patterns (Programming). At its heart, NLP is about increasing choice—giving you more flexibility in how you respond to life, achieve goals, and connect with others.
What makes Maharlika NLP's approach different?
Our foundation is Transformational NLP, which emphasizes deep rapport: with yourself, with others, and with Life itself. We focus on respectful, ecological change that honors all your experiences and innate wholeness. “Maharlika,” meaning “the free man,” speaks to our core mission: to remind every Filipino of their inherent freedom and capacity for choice.
Is NLP a form of therapy?
NLP is an educational and coaching methodology, not a clinical therapy. It is a set of tools for learning, communication, and personal development. While the work can be deeply therapeutic, our trainers are not acting as psychotherapists, and our trainings are not a substitute for professional medical or psychological treatment.
A. The Trainings: Paths & Prerequisites
What is the difference between your courses?
We offer a progressive learning path:
- Introduction to NLP: A short workshop for the curious beginner to experience core concepts.
- Core Competencies of NLP: The foundational training for deep skill-building in NLP principles and techniques.
- Master NLP Practitioner: An advanced course for deep exploration of beliefs, identity, and the artistry of facilitating transformation.
Do I need any background to join the Introduction to NLP?
No prior experience is needed. The Introduction is designed for complete beginners—anyone curious about how their mind works and wanting practical tools for everyday life.
What are the prerequisites for the Core Competencies course?
The only prerequisite is a genuine interest in learning and growth. You can start with the Introduction to NLP to get a feel for the work, but it is not mandatory to enroll in Core Competencies.
What are the prerequisites for the Master Practitioner Training?
You must have successfully completed the Core Competencies of NLP (or an equivalent foundational NLP practitioner training). The Master level builds directly upon the skills and frameworks learned in the foundation course.
I have previous NLP training elsewhere. Can I join an advanced course?
Yes, in some cases. We welcome students from other quality NLP schools. Please contact us directly to discuss your previous training, and we can explore the best point of entry for you, which may involve a brief skills assessment.
B. Logistics & Commitment
What is the time commitment for the courses?
Introduction to NLP: One 3-hour session.
Core Competencies: 4 training weekends spread over 2 months, plus mandatory weekly study groups and a final integration weekend.
Master Practitioner: 8 training weekends spread over 4 months, plus mandatory weekly study groups and a final integration weekend.
Are the courses online or in-person?
Introduction to NLP & Core Competencies: We offer both online (via Zoom) and in-person cohorts. Check the specific course page for the format of the upcoming session.[ link to trainings landing page ]
Master Practitioner: This is primarily an in-person training to facilitate deep group work and embodied learning.
What if I have to miss a session?
We understand life happens. For our longer courses, all live sessions are recorded. If you miss a day, you will have access to the recording and can review the material. We strongly encourage attending the weekly supervised study groups to catch up and integrate any missed content with a trainer’s support.
What is the learning environment like?
Our trainings are highly experiential and conducted in a supportive, respectful environment. Class time is a dynamic mix of lecture, live demonstration, and lots of guided practice with fellow students. We cultivate a community of “like-hearted” learners who support each other’s growth.
What does "weekly supervised study groups" mean?
This is a key part of our training for Core and Master levels. Outside of the main training weekends, you will meet weekly in a small group with a trained Teaching Assistant (TA). This is where you practice skills, ask questions, and deeply integrate the learning in a safe, structured space. It’s what turns knowledge into reliable competence.
C. Certification & Outcomes
Do I have to become certified?
No. While we offer certification for those who wish to practice professionally, many students take our courses purely for profound personal or professional development. You can engage fully in the training without pursuing formal certification.
What will I be able to do after completing Core Competencies?
You will have a robust toolkit for personal change and effective communication. Graduates apply these skills to improve relationships, enhance their careers in leadership, coaching, or therapy, and navigate life with greater confidence and resilience. You will also be eligible to enroll in the Master Practitioner Training.
What are the outcomes of the Master Practitioner Training?
You will graduate with the ability to facilitate deep-level change work at the level of beliefs and identity. This distinguishes you as a skilled professional capable of guiding profound transformation. You will also experience significant personal integration, achieving a masterful level of self-awareness and rapport with the world.
