How do you know if you are bearing your spiritual weight?

In the course of my exploration this year, this was one question that caught my attention. It was actually an observation: that I tend to either undervalue or overvalue my spiritual weight given varied circumstances. Don’t we all? Sometimes, we can sense when we are out of alignment with something deep within our core.

And so, I sat with it for a while.

Coincidentally, I was invited by my friend, Gigi, to join the contemplative advent intensive retreat at Regina Rica in Tanay, Rizal. Regina Rica is such a beautiful place, and the Dominican Sisters there, led by Mother Eppie Brasil, were some of coolest, most down to earth nuns I have ever met. It was there that I had the privilege to spend three wonderful days in silent meditation. My first ever.

What the others are saying is so true. It is only when we go deeply in ourselves will we find the well of strength and calm that has been there all along.

After the retreat, I immersed myself in the question again: how do I know if I am bearing my spiritual weight?
