Whether we realize it or not, our brains are constantly deleting information to help us make sense of the world.
Try this: Close your eyes for a moment and listen.
You’ll likely notice sounds you weren’t consciously aware of before—the hum of a fan, distant traffic, or birds outside.
This filtering is essential—without it, we’d be overwhelmed by every sight, sound, and sensation around us.
Deleting helps us
Where Deleting Can Trip Us Up:
A Useful Question to Pause & Ask:
“What might I be deleting in this situation?”
Before reacting in a disagreement, ask: “Am I missing their perspective?”
When confused at work: “What details am I overlooking?”
In personal relationships: “What subtle cues have I tuned out?”
Our minds filter to protect us—but sometimes, we need to consciously check our blind spots. Where could this awareness help you today?
