The Armor We Wear #1: CYNICISM-The Shield That Starts to Suffocate.

“I don’t trust people anymore. I’m just being realistic.”

We’ve all said some version of this. Maybe after:
The friend who ghosted you
The partner who lied
The system that rewarded the wrong people again

Cynicism doesn’t arrive uninvited. It’s what happens when disappointments stops feeling like an exception and starts feeling like the rule.

Cynicism pretends it’s wisdom:
✔ “I see through the BS”
✔ “I won’t be fooled again”
✔ “Expect nothing and you’ll never be disappointed”
And it works—for a while. That constant low hum of suspicion? It’s your psyche’s airbag system.

The Moment It Turns Toxic
The first time you:
Hear a sincere compliment and immediately search for the angle
Meet someone kind and assume it’s an act
Feel joy… then immediately brace for the other shoe to drop
That’s when your shield becomes your cage.
The Wisdom Upgrade: From Cynicism to Discernment

Try this mental shift:
“I’ve been hurt before → but not everyone is the person who hurt me.”
3 ways to practice:
1️⃣ Spot check your skepticism – Next time you assume bad intent, ask: “Is this fact… or my armor talking?”
2️⃣ Create ‘safe enough’ spaces – Choose one low-stakes area (e.g., a hobby group) to practice trusting first
3️⃣ Honor your scars without letting them rule – “Because X hurt me, I’m careful about Y… but I still leave room for Z.”
What’s one relationship, opportunity, or joy your cynicism might be silently starving?
