Understanding Your Mind's Natural Patterns

Did you know we all develop unconscious mental habits that shape how we respond to life? In NLP, we call these “strategies” – the natural sequences of internal images, sounds, and feelings (and sometimes tastes and smells, too!) that lead to our actions.
What does a mental strategy look like?

• A motivation pattern might be:

➔ Seeing a completed task (visual)
➔ Hearing “You’ve got this” (auditory)
➔ Feeling energized (kinesthetic)
➔ Taking action

• A hesitation pattern might be:

➔ Imagining obstacles (visual)
➔ Thinking “What if I fail?” (auditory)
➔ Feeling tension (kinesthetic)
➔ Holding back

The gentle approach to change:

Notice your patterns with curiosity
Understand how they serve you
Adjust one small piece at a time

Example:

If you tend to procrastinate by:

➔ Seeing the whole task at once → “It’s too much” → Feeling overwhelmed → Avoiding

You might try:

➔ Seeing just the first step → “I can begin here” → Feeling capable → Starting

Why this matters:

When we understand our mind’s natural language, we can work with it rather than against it.
